Bemerkungen/Beschreibung
Summary The only important feeder of Lake Neusiedl is a small river called Wulka. Its rivershed has a size of 400 square kilometres. The overall length of the Wulka is just about 36 kilometres. About 10 % of the water of Lake Neusiedl derives from the Wulka. Its average flow rate is down to only 1,2 m3 per second. More than half of the rivershed is fit for an intense agricultural use. In former times the Wulka was a widely ramified river with lots of meanders. As a result of the numerous floods the riverbed was regulated in the 1950s. Merely in its mouth the river is still nearnatural. The Wulka plain is nowadays dominated by large-scaled fields and vineyards. Due to the increase of agriculture the traditional grassland and grazing land has almost disappeared.
